Back Porch Buddha, Vol. 1
Cabaret Old Town
June 3, 2007
Drums: Steve Hatfield
Bass: John Probst
Vocals: Barney Byard and Shalen Scheltgen
This incarnation of Back Porch Buddha was germinated way back in 2002, when
Steve Hatfield contributed drums
and percussion to Bryan's CD "Thundar
the Boy Giant." His contribution was immense, and Bryan started scheming
on ways to get HatDaddy onstage.
Funny thing is, Bryan and Steve never met in person until 2006 (even though
they live a block apart) when Bryan was working on the design of Steve's CD
"Just Be Wally."
During those collaborations, Bryan and Dennis started pumping HatDaddy for a
chance to play together. Steve brought in his musical partner bassist John Probst
and it all started to roll into focus.
After (shockingly few) rehearsals at Friends University where Steve teaches,
the first extended edition of Back Porch Buddha took shape: 10 rockin' takes
on Bryan's songs (and one by regional legend Terry Quiett) and one
whopper of a Beatles cover tune.
When Digital Boy producer Mark
Scheltgen got wind of the project, he pushed to record the show for a live CD.
Cabaret Old Town seemed like the
perfect venue, and the deal was struck.
HatDaddy says: "Since playing on "Thundar, the Boy Giant", I
have been itching to get to work in a live setting with Bryan and Dennis. Well,
that itch is now officially scratched and it feels great! I'm having a blast
and I get to have my partner in musical crime, John Probst, along for the ride.
Viva La Buddha!!!"
